Experiences at the interface of life, law, and motherhood in Cali

Victory Gardens

I am so excited about this! I applied last night, but regardless of whether or not they pick me, I am pretty sure we will do it. Very cool.

Urban Farming

This is something that currently has my interest. I want to learn as much as I can in the hopes that I can one day grow (at least) all of the vegetables my family will eat. Very cool.

I want

beaba1

I do believe that this is one kitchen appliance I would actually use. Steaming and pureeing to your desired consistency all in one, I think I am in love. No doubt cleaning it is probably a pain, but all of a sudden I am actually thinking that making our own baby food is an option. There’s no way I could find the time to individually boil/steam fruits & veggies, then freeze them in those cute ice cube trays like some of the SAHMs I know, but this, this is big!

Seder in the White House

I didn’t get my invitation :p

But seriously, the news anchor said Obama is the first president to host, let alone attend, a Passover Seder, that is pretty shocking. Guess he’s destined to be the first at many positive things!

Pesach Recap

We were fortunate enough to be hosted by a wonderful family to whom we were referred through the local Jewish baby program. They had quite the Seder spread, delicious Matzo Ball soup, salmon, and lots of other goodies which unfortunately we weren’t able to enjoy because of bebe 1’s early bedtime. That and the fact that almost everything that touched the highchair tray was hurled onto the floor below. She definitely did not like Matzo. She did, however, like the chicken from the soup, and she’s generally not a chicken fan, so that was good. It was wonderful, and I only wish we could have stayed longer to get to know the other guests & our host. As they say, next year in Jerusalem!

Motherlode & Slow Parenting

I came across this new blog called the Motherlode, for which I will add a link to my list.

There is an interview with the author who created, or rather capitalized upon, the concept of Slow Parenting. I’d like to think that aside from the baby sign language, I pretty much fall under this sort of parenting philosophy.

Storage

I never had a nesting instinct with the last pregnancy so this is all completely new to me. This time nesting is in high gear. We’re getting storage to clear out all the things we would only use if we actually had a house and lots of time to entertain. For example, wine glasses, martini glasses, margarita glasses, tea cups, platters, kitchenaid mixer, cuisinart, espresso maker– you know the things you use when you have a life. Anyway, it is all I can think about it, and we are doing it this weekend, so I am immensely excited.

Hep B Blog

I seem to come across many interesting articles, links, pieces of info, etc. at the intersection of law & motherhood. This blog details the incredibly unfortunate death of an infant due to a lethal reaction to the Hepatitis B vaccination. I’m currently writing a paper about parents’ rights as related to vaccinations, and it is stories like this which make the right to decline absolutely clear.
